I Need Sleep + a Vacation

Damn am I happy it’s Friday.

I am in desperate need of sleep and a vacation! I’ve had no sleep this week because my 16 month old is teething (canines and top molars – ouch!) and he’s been waking up in the middle of the night for the past few days.  I’m exhausted.  This is the main reason why I don’t think I can handle another child.  Not necessarily b/c of my age in relation to carrying a baby but in relation to my age b/c I’m too damn tired to do this again!  So, why am I so happy about it being Friday?  Because tomorrow is Saturday and I get to sleep-in.  The husband will be in charge of the kids tomorrow morning, fo’ sho’!  Otherwise, by next week I may end up looking like this:

I’m officially a Mombie

Tired, burning, Walking Dead eyes certainly have me thinking about going on vacation for some serious R and R.  Yes, I have our women’s retreat coming up but I’ll be working so although I am looking forward to the time away, it won’t be the serious sleep-in and do absolutely nothing resembling work type of getaway that I really need.  It will be that for attendees however so sign up hereStaycations are great but generally short lived.  I gotta get outta town.  With that, I was thinking about where I want to go and what I want to see.  It started me on a path to really wanting to travel more and see the world.  One problem, I hate flying!

But you gotta face your fears

So I do fly (I just really don’t like it and have a lot of anxiety every time I get on a plane).  I also find that most people (friends and family included) are not at all sympathetic to the fact that flying really makes me nervous.  Thanks a lot guys!  You certainly have to suck up the need for comfort when travelling with people who could give 2 poops about your issues (my husband, lol).  All I want is my hand held guys.  Hold my hand!!

So where has all my research and interneternizing led me to want to visit?

Montreal and Quebec City!

French speaking but also English Speaking – um yes please.  European feel without having to deal with a long overseas flight, crowds or pick-pockets, another resounding yes!!

After reading more about the French-Canadian culture of these two cities, I was just so smitten.  Both “Old Towns” seem so magical, even in the summer although the Winter Village in Quebec City is beyond dreamy.  I’m just not a fan of the cold so the pretty pictures and videos (here and here) will have to do.

Perhaps a trip to Quebec can also get me prepared for a trip to Paris, eventually.  Not that they are too similar but I can work on my French (I took 3 years of French in school) and also just get over the flying thing.  I am so nervous about an overseas flight but I want to go to Paris so bad.  If Quebec just gives me that little taste of Francais, then maybe my will to travel to Paris for the real thing will be that much stronger.  Paris 2019?  We’ll see.

This will probably end up being my 40th birthday trip with the husband.  I think August would be a wonderful time to travel to Quebec so I’m deep in planing mode and will share some tips and our itinerary once we finalize.  I hope it pans out.  I’m dreaming about Quebec non-stop now, which is all the more reason I need my sleep.  So I can dream even more!!

Thanks for reading this vent post. If I do nothing else, I keep it real!!
