If you recall when I posted about my winter skincare routine, you know the over 40 skincare struggle is real. So, I was thrilled to be asked to review TruSkin Vitamin C Serum and TruSkin Vitamin C Moisturizer.
First, let’s delve into some background about the company and the product. I love that their products are formulated with plant-powered ingredients but without parabens, sulfates, phthalates, and polyethylene glycols (bad stuff). It’s also a cruelty free (Leaping Bunny Certified) brand formulated in the US.
Now here are some facts specifically relating to the products I reviewed. TruSkin Vitamin C Serum uses a stable form of vitamin C (sodium ascorbyl
phosphate or SAP) that stays potent longer without needing high levels of
preservatives. Active vitamin C targets dark spots, fine lines, and overall tone while nourishing, protecting, and feeding the skin. Also, the serum contains a high concentration of organic aloe vera that calms and soothes skin.
Now you see why I was eager to try the samples! Here are my honest thoughts.
I made sure to do a patch test on my neck 24 hours before I applied to my entire face. Please, always do a patch test at least 24–48 hours before applying to your entire face to make sure the ingredients are suitable for your skin!
I used the serum and moisturizer each morning after cleaning my face. As you can see the serum is uses a dropper to dispense product and I used about half of a dropper per application.
I applied about 5 drops to my palm and then dotted my forehead, cheeks, nose, chin, and neck with the product on my fingertips and gently rubbed it into my skin in an upward, outward motion.
The formulation is not an oily serum but thick enough to feel like you’re getting moisturization benefits. I prefer a more oil based serum at night time but honestly for going about my day, this consistency is great. I quickly followed the serum with the moisturizer and rubbed it in the same way. I also like the feel of the moisturizer. It’s not too thick for morning use and would be nice under makeup.
As for my results, my skin generally feels softer and more supple after using this for a few weeks consistently. It has definite skin brightening properties. Not too crazy but I noticed the melasma on my forehead (thanx to my second baby, lol) is a tinge lighter and I appreciate that. I can’t really speak to the anti-aging properties because right now, I only have fine lines around my eyes and this is not an eye product. I do think the brightening and moisturizing properties are helpful for anti-aging so there’s that. I feel more glowy, which is nice when you’re over 40!
The gist of my TruSkin Vitamin C Serum review is that I recommend giving it and the TruSkin Vitamin C Moisturizer a try. I think the price is right for the benefits to my skin. Again, I use different products at night but these are a great addition to my skincare routine.
