A Scared Citizen

Happy 4th of July.

This blog is for, let’s be honest, frivolous pursuits and purposes. And I know there are people who do not care about bloggers’ and influencers’ opinions on anything other than the latest wish list from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (which I will actually have a post about soon). However, I try to be a well rounded person and part of my life is caring about society and the future for my children and for yours.

So I’m sharing a think piece with you today for kicks and giggles. I don’t have a high readership and likely the subject will turn some of you/them away but I had to write my thoughts and feelings down. It made me feel better at least. Please do read on and let me know your thoughts on this Project 2025 agenda and how you are feeling about the upcoming election and about how divisive the political climate is now in the United States of America.

Project 2025: Our goal is to assemble an army of aligned, vetted, trained, and prepared conservatives to go to work on Day One to deconstruct the Administrative State. – project2025 dot org

I hated giving them clicks (and won’t hyperlink them here), but I went to the website to read what it’s all about for myself. It’s as bad as the media says. Peep the language they use.

“Organized by the Heritage Foundation, Project 2025 has brought together 45 (and counting) right-of-center organizations that are ready to get into the business of restoring this country through the combination of the right policies and well-trained people.” – heritage dot org

2018: “One year after taking office, President Donald Trump and his administration have embraced nearly two-thirds of the policy recommendations from The Heritage Foundation’s “Mandate for Leadership.” -heritage dot org

“Belief in small government, strangely enough, has manifested itself in a belief among some conservatives that we should lead by example and not fill all political appointments. Belief in the primacy of the national security state has caused conservative administrations to defer political decisions to the generals and the intelligence community.

The result has been decades of disappointment.

Fortunately, this situation is changing. The conservative movement increasingly knows what time it is in America. More and more of our politicians are willing to use the government to achieve our vision, because the neutrality of “keeping the government out of it” will lose every time to the left’s vast power.” – heritage dot org

The thing is, the more I read, the more it’s typical politics (we do the same thing you do but we are better) with a side of Mein Kampf (Hitler’s Manifesto if you were unaware). Think about the Enabling Act of Germany in 1933. This past week the SCOTUS basically laid out the ground work for much of the same.

That is scarier to me than an old President (I am of course referencing Joe Biden and his terrible debate – however Trump’s performance was only a half a tick above which is truly sad). I’m getting my passport ready and weighing my options. As a non-conservative (independent), non-white (African American and Caucasian), non-male (woman), I am seriously scared for myself, and certainly scared for my husband and sons. It’s so much WTF, it’s hard to comprehend.

And democrats as a whole are just as culpable for allowing this to happen b/c of their policies and just going with the status quo thinking these people are going to play fair. Social media has ruined any semblance of the standard election process and any lingering forms of integrity it held. To an extent, part of me feels like we deserve it. If people are this dumb, then that’s how it will play out and they write their own history. But I can’t concede yet. There has got to be a way out of this mess ‘cuz I don’t have the capacity to live like Anne Frank y’all…

These people don’t want an America based on what the founding dudes wanted (which was always an ideal, let’s be honest). They don’t care about the lovely sonnet on the Statue of Liberty (“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…”). They want things opposite the real Jesus Christ, they want idolatry, ideology, patriotism, racism, classism, sexism, etc… Shit is scary. So much WTF. And if you don’t vote (either way b/c when you vote conservative, at least you are saying it with your chest), but if you don’t vote, you are absolutely culpable for this mess.

“Given how closely divided the U.S. is politically, these intermittent voters often determine the outcome of elections and how the balance of support for the two major political parties swings between elections.” https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2023/07/12/voter-turnout-2018-2022

In closing, I want to reiterate that I am not into politics. I am an independent or swing voter. I think our 2-party political system is frankly, plebeian at this point. Just like capitalism, it served its time and we need to evolve. But people are scared of evolution. It simultaneously asks you to choose to change and also release control to that change, and that is not some people do inherently well. But policies matter. State and local politicians matter b/c they put the policies in place that affect the national good by virtue of the upward funnel.

If anyone does read this, please just do your part and vote. Even if you don’t share my opinions, at least you can solidly say, “this” is what you want and the rest of us can react accordingly (and move to Puglia, Italy).

Now, back to our regularly scheduled, “I love a matching set for summer” programming.
