Top Ten Tuesday: My Favorite Guitarists

It’s been a long while since I posted a Top Ten Tuesday list. Today, I’m sharing my fave guitar players.

#1) Jimi Hendrix. Duh. Ok, I’ll add a bit more explanation. He’s the best! There you have it. 😄

#2 Prince. I adore Prince. IYKYK. He knew he could play but was actually quite humble about it. He believed Santana played way “cleaner” than himself.

#3) Eric Clapton. Prolific, bluesy, and adaptable. Love his style and I’m amazed he’s been solo for over 50 years!

#4) Carlos Santana. As referenced above, Prince thought he is amazing. So do I. His fusion of jazz and salsa, among other styles of music is top tier and has been for over 50 years as well.

#5) Stevie Ray Vaughan. I’m a Texas gal, what can I say. I have several of his Austin City Limits concerts on Blu-Ray and I will not discard them. He was so talented.

#6). Derek Trucks. Admittedly, I had no idea who he was until I found out he was married to my girl Susan Tedeschi (how I love her) after an appearance on The Tonight Show back in the aughts. This man can play y’all!! I was lucky enough to see Tedeschi Trucks Band in concert recently and I was blown away.

#7) Bonnie Raitt. I was more of a fan of hers from a vocalist perspective and then I started doing my research on Ms. Bonnie from the 1970s. I love the sound of her slide guitar. She’s awesome.

#8) Slash. Representing my bi-racial peeps! All you have to do is listen to Appetite for Destruction to know he deserves his place as one of the best guitarists.

#9) Roy Clark. Yes, I’m taking it way back with this one but his performance of Malagueña on the Ed Sullivan Show (via YouTube) was mesmerizing. He’s amazing.

#10) John Mayer. I genuinely like his music. Both his acoustic and eclectic guitar style showcase his talent. Slow Dancing in a Burning Room has one of my favorite riffs.

You know I made a playlist on Spotify to accompany this post so please take a listen and give it a save.

*Honorable Mentions (in no particular ranking order): B.B. King, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, Gary Clark Jr, Chuck Berry, Marcus King, Nile Rogers, Joe Perry, Slash, Jeff Beck. There are so many supremely talented guitarists that I don’t know enough about to add here. I am a huge fan of the guitar.

Here’s a list of the 250 Greatest Guitarists of All Time (published in October 2023) from Rolling Stone. Interesting rankings. What are your thoughts on their list, and mine?
