Milestone Birthday Celebration Vacation

Birthdays are fun and I’ve always loved celebrating them.  However, some birthdays are just so special that you have to take the celebration up several notches.  Enter the Milestone Birthday Celebration Vacation.

Milestone Birthday Celebration Vacation at La Cantera Resort

I wanted to mark my 40th birthday by doing something different, and since I don’t travel a lot (two young kids and not a lot of extra loot will do that), going on a birthday getaway minus the kiddos was special for me. We narrowed the destination down to three places:  Montreal, Scottsdale and San Antonio.  Visit this post to see why we decided on San Antonio.

My husband and I did not go on a 10th Anniversary trip like we wanted earlier in the year, so this is also a nice sub for that.  With it being just the two of us, I knew I needed to really live it up and make this Milestone Birthday Celebration Vacation a super fun trip.

Where did we stay?

After dropping the kids off with my in-laws, we left mid-week for a drive to San Antonio to stay at the La Cantera Resort and Spa.   Luxury accommodations, amazing views, and a comfortable Texas feel had us sold!  The resort is great for summer vacations as it has several pools, bars and restaurants.  It’s also family friendly and we’ll definitely be back with our boys.  BTDubs, this post is NOT sponsored.

We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights, which was the perfect length.  I missed my kiddos immediately but was still glad for the time away.

The reception area is gorgeous and inviting.  Our room was well appointed and comfortable and the view was very nice.

After we settled in our room, we wanted to get outside and walk the grounds.  There were gorgeous views and lush landscaping everywhere.

I particularly enjoyed the view from Primero Cantina – of the hills and of my husband!

We actually ordered room service our first night and our lovely guest services rep sent us Prosecco and their signature truffles for my birthday.  Such a sweet touch.  There is nothing like champagne (or Prosecco) to signify a Milestone Birthday Celebration Vacation!

On our second full day, we took advantage of the chic Adult infinity pool (after indulging with some Patron XO Cafe in my coffee).  Vacation guys.  Alcohol at 9 a.m. is perfectly acceptable on vacation.

Below is the main resort pool.  It’s huge and bustling with people but was never over crowded.

I loved all the seating areas nestled around the grounds.

We also ate very well, especially at SweetFire Kitchen.  The service was impeccable.  They really took care of us!

How divine do the macarons at Bocado look?

On our last full day, we explored the resort more (there is so much to see and do) and visited the Shops at La Cantera.  The shopping center is a quick drive from the resort and they’ll even take you there if you want.

We didn’t go to the Loma Da Vida Spa, but if you can afford it and have the time, go.  I’ve read that it’s wonderful and relaxing, which is what a spa should be!  Next trip we’ll definitely budget for a spa afternoon.  Also, we don’t golf but the course is amazing with a lot of amenities on its own.

Resort Highlights

  • Lovely Texas Hill Country views at every turn
  • Very welcoming staff and fantastic service
  • Lots to do – “so many activities!”
  • Extremely Instagrammable
  • Couple friendly and family friendly
  • Delicious food choices
  • Great location!

This was my second time visiting San Antonio and I enjoyed it immensely.  It’s a cool city and I recommend it as a travel stop, especially if you’re in Texas.  La Cantera was a lovely resort and it was even more perfect for a Milestone Birthday Celebration Vacation than I could have imagined.  Like I said, we will be back!  This was the most special 40th birthday I’ve ever had, ha!!
