Top Ten Tuesday: Movies

Top Ten lists are not easy to compile, especially if you have a gang of data to choose from. I have a gang of movies to choose from as I am an avid movie lover. This list definitely took some time and thought on my part.

I wanted to share my Top Ten Movies with you because I would love to know what your favorites are so I’m starting by sharing mine. I’m learning how to be a giver in my old age, ha!

So, if you care too and love movies then read on, shake your head in agreement, or be aghast with judgment regarding my choices.

Top Ten Movies

  • 1} Aliens
  • 2} 300 tied with Gladiator (I could not choose between them so I cheated)
  • 3} Stepbrothers
  • 4} Full Metal Jacket tied with Platoon (don’t make me choose)
  • 5} Star Wars Episode 4
  • 6} It’s A Wonderful Life
  • 7} Goodfellas
  • 8} Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
  • 9} Jaws
  • 10} Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

As you can see, my list is all over the place in terms of genre and age. Aliens takes the top spot because, Ripley. That should be enough said. Yes, I have a couple of ties but I could not decide between them as they are of similar style and of the same genre. So technically this is a Top Twelve List but it’s my blog post and my list so my rules, k!

Top Ten Movies Alien Anthology

I only have one comedy listed although I love comedies. It’s just that Stepbrothers is the master of them all for me. There is nothing better than reminiscing about the F*cking Catalina Wine Mixer, is there?

Slapstick comedies just do it for me. Think The Naked Gun, Kingpin, There’s Something About Mary, White Girls, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. The creators of those films are my people. Although I like Rom Coms, they are generally not my fave, some exceptions being Coming to America, Pretty Woman, and The Proposal (or almost any comedy with Sandra Bullock).

Of course, a Marilyn Monroe movie rounds out my list. I adore Marilyn Monroe. ADORE! I could watch any movie with her in it and be satisfied with how I spent my time however, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes was her best role in my opinion. Her comedic timing and chemistry with Jane Russell was completely brilliant. And if you ever need some quick entertainment, I’d be happy to perform my own rendition of “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” for you, as I know all the words and choreography. Just let me know.

Honorable Mentions

  • Braveheart
  • The Matrix
  • The Silence of the Lambs
  • The Wizard of Oz
  • Dumb and Dumber
  • Forest Gump
  • The Lord of the Rings
  • Thomas Crown Affair (1999)
  • Pulp Fiction
  • Imitation of Life (1959)

A few other great movies that aren’t listed are The Godfather (probably on most Top Ten Lists compiled by the male persuasion), Scarface, Nightmare on Elm Street (the original, of course), The Lover, The Shining, Dangerous Liaisons. My goodness, I could go on.

I love movies. Netflix is a Godsend for people like me although I wish they included more titles such as Risky Business, Superman (1976), and Basic Instinct. You see, my honorable mention list could have been quite long.

Now that you’ve read my cinematic drivel, please share your top movies, three or ten. What do you agree with or disagree with about my list and comments? Chime in below!

    1. Yes, yes, yes. Schindler’s List is certainly amazing. I was also extremely moved by the Pianist.

Out of Africa is just so good and my Brad (as in Brad Pitt if you didn’t know) reminds me of Robert Redford in some ways.

Aunt Beth and I had had some words about Some Like it Hot. It’s my #2 Marilyn movie!

  1. I don’t think I have seen any from the first list but have seen the honorable mentions.

My absolute favourite movie of all time is Dead Poets Society. No one ever talks about it anymore but it is such a good movie.

  2. Ummmm. I like we could be movie watching twins. These are some of my absolute faves! I’m about the shock you all though.. I have never seen the Star Wars Movies(hides head in shame…).

Seriously, awesome list. 🙂 Excuse me while I go plan out my movie night.
