Like Warm Apple Crumb Pie

I love apple pie. The urge to bake a pie from scratch hit me (kinda like here when I just had to make a cheesecake) and I just had to find a recipe to dig into. I knew I wanted more of a Dutch style so when I found this recipe for Apple Crumb Pie, I knew it was the one. The fact that alcohol was mentioned in the recipe (Butter Rum Sauce) didn’t hurt. So, I’m sharing this in time for all your holiday meal planning!

Confession: I am lazy and that also goes for baking and cooking but I love to do both… I also love store bought apple pie filling. However, it can tend to be too mushy in a pie that bakes for a while. My hack? I used 1 can of pie filling and just halved the real apple “apple filling” portion of the recipe. Totally semi-homemade and I get that sweet goodness from the can and the hearty texture of the homemade filling.

As for the sauce, I only had bourbon on hand. I wasn’t about to buy rum because I would drink it and I’m trying to cut down on my lushiness. After scouring the internets for a bourbon sauce, I came across this recipe and lemme tell you. Drool… So good.

Of course I omitted the sauce when I served the kiddos. They helped me devour this pie in about 4 days. Oops – my weight loss saga hit a wall for a bit but we’re ok now that the pie is but a memory. Oh, and my husband doesn’t like apple pie, or apple crumb pie or any variation of apple with pie. I know… I know… WTF??

This pie was so delicious y’all. It would be perfect for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I say “and” because there is practically a month between the holidays which is plenty of time to go on a pie hiatus and then get back to it. You must make this. It was so easy (using my hack or not).

If you do make this Apple Crumb Pie with the actual Butter Rum Sauce, please let me know how that turned out!
