DIY Christmas Decor and Ornament Hack

I keep things fairly simple when it comes to Christmas decor.  There is no need to go broke just to keep up with the Christmas Joneses, lol!  I love festive decorations and when people go all out, but it’s just not me.  However, this is my favorite time of the year so I decided to decorate a bit with some DIY Christmas decor projects.

My Christmas decor budget was about $25.00 so I had to be creative.  I bought one new item this year and it turns out I don’t have anywhere to hang it.  So, I had to come up with something else.  That’s where the DIY Christmas decor comes in to play.  I decided to make a DIY foam wreath and made sure the tree was toddler proof with DIY paper ornaments.  Let me give you a quick rundown on these DIY decorations.

I gathered some cute bows and used two different sized bowls to trace and cut out a circle in red foam.
I punched a whole at the top and made a loop with some festive twine (here from Target).  Then I stuck the bows on the foam with double sided tape.  The adhesive on the bows is not sticky enough to stay on.  Also, I taped a few pieces of cardboard on the back, opposite the bows so the weight would be evenly distributed and the wreath wouldn’t hang lopsided.

I used a sharpie to write our family name on it and that’s all folks.  The wreath will not stay hung up here but I just wanted to show it off completed.  It’s not fancy, but it was easy and free (I already had all items from previous years).

Now for my quick paper ornament hacks:

I used old Christmas cards from last year to make Snowman Ornaments.  All I did was cut them out and made a tab at the top so I could punch out a hole for hanging.
For the metallic ornament, I performed a google search for a template to use.  Then I just  cut it out of beautiful glittered metallic cardstock.

All my ornaments at the bottom of the tree are toddler friendly.

As for my outdoor bow…

This should win an award for the cheapest up-cycled, easiest free DIY Christmas decor, ever!

The gold and silver bow in the back is from the wrapping of a giant nutcracker I won at a previous job.  The green velvet bow and gold glittered twigs are from a wreath that was gifted to me several years ago.  I tied it all together with a gold twist-tie I found in my Christmas tub and hung it up.

You don’t have to be a Scrooge just because you want to do Christmas decor on the cheap.
